How it works

Distance × applicable rate

Mileage reimbursement is commonly estimated by multiplying eligible business distance by the rate that applies to the trip or your employer's reimbursement policy.

Reimbursement and a tax deduction are not the same thing. This tool estimates reimbursement using the selected rate.

Canada

Self-employed vehicle expenses are different.

Canadian prescribed per-kilometre allowance rates are commonly used for reasonable employee allowances. A self-employed person's motor vehicle expense deduction is generally not simply business kilometres multiplied by this allowance rate.
